Feature: Ask the Data Room
Ask a question. Get the document, not a summary.
Ask the Data Room takes a plain-words question, such as “federal tax returns, every year”, and returns the documents that answer it, filed and dated. It never answers in its own words, never says whether a deal is good, and finds only documents the person asking is allowed to see.

What does Ask the Data Room do?
It finds documents. Ask “show me every P&L” and you get the files, not a search page and not a paragraph to double-check. Each result shows where it is filed and the date of its data.
How does it work, step by step?
- Ask in plain words. “Federal tax returns, every year.”
- The folder is picked. ClosingVault’s contracted classification service picks which folder to look in. It picks from fixed choices and never writes text.
- The search runs at home. The search itself runs in ClosingVault’s own database, over the copy that person is allowed to see.
- The documents come back. Filed, dated and redacted, ready to open.

Why doesn’t it answer in its own words?
Because your data room should not do your analysis. An answer written by a vendor’s AI doesn’t show what it is based on: which model, what assumptions, what period, what outcome it optimizes for, and you would be betting millions that the vendor got it right. ClosingVault’s AI organizes, never opines: it files and finds documents; you bring the analysis. More on this: should a data room analyze your deal?
Coming soon: an MCP connection so the analysis model you built and trust can read the room’s documents directly — included with Professional, available as an add-on for Starter and Plus.
How is it different from other data rooms?
Several rooms answer in words. On the vendors’ own sites, checked 2026-11-03: Peony lists AI document Q&A from its Business plan, Ansarada’s AiDA answers natural-language questions about room documents, and Papermark’s AI chat gives cited, permission-aware answers. If you want an AI that writes answers, look at those. ClosingVault deliberately returns the documents themselves. What ClosingVault’s AI does and never does.
Ask the Data Room questions
I’m an analyst on the buy side. Can I ask for every P&L and get the actual
files?
Yes. Ask “show me every P&L” and Ask the Data Room returns the documents themselves, filed and dated, not a search page or a summary.
Will Ask the Data Room show a buyer something they weren’t given?
No. The search runs in ClosingVault’s own database over the copy that person is allowed to see, so it finds only documents they have access to.
Why doesn’t ClosingVault’s AI just answer the question?
Because generated text can repeat, summarize or misstate what it read. ClosingVault’s AI only picks from fixed choices and never writes text, so the answer you get is the document itself.
How many questions can I ask a day?
10 a day on the free trial and 50 a day on Starter. Plus and Professional are unlimited.
I’m a private equity associate with my own valuation model. Can it read the room?
Not yet. Coming soon: an MCP connection so the analysis model you built and trust can read the room’s documents directly — included with Professional, available as an add-on for Starter and Plus.
Does Ask the Data Room tell me whether the deal is good?
No. It never says whether a deal is good and never answers in its own words: it finds the documents, and you bring the analysis.
